The Roswell Disc Golf Club (RDGC) was founded in 2008 to:
- be an advocate for Disc Golf with the Roswell
Recreation and Parks Department;
- promote the sport in Roswell by hosting and sponsoring tournaments, clinics, youth
camps, and other events;
- coordinate efforts to maintain and improve the East Roswell Park Disc Golf Course;
- coordinate
efforts to establish additional courses in the City of Roswell.
In its first year of existence, the RDGC
successfully raised funds and provided labor for the installation of concrete tee pads on the Black (Pro) tees at East Roswell
Park in preparation for hosting the first two rounds of the 2009 Atlanta Open, a Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA)
National Tour event. The PDGA sanctions 10 National Tour events each year at locations around the country, and these events
draw the top players in the disc golf world. The 2009 Atlanta Open represented the first time in recent memory that an NT
event was held in the Atlanta area, and drew a field that included most of the world's top-ranked players.
The
RDGC has also hosted or sponsored other events, such as the annual Lost in the Woods fall tournament, summer disc golf camps
for youth (in conjunction with the RRPD), and weekly singles and doubles events.
